By letters dated November 25 cnd December 30, vided clarification on the applicability of codes and standarcs to your dign and installation of the planned third auxiliary feedwater (AFW) train for each Calvert Cliffs unit.
Based on our review of these submittals, we understand that the third AFW train will, for each unit, consist of a motor-driven centr'/ugal pump, interconnecting piping and valves, and will be constructed in accordance with the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code,Section III, 1977 Edition, through the Sumer 1978 Addenda to the code. Class 2 components will be constructed in accordance with all the articles of ASME Section III, Subsection NC. The Class 3 components will be constructed in accordance with all the articles of ASME Section III, Subsection ND. Component supports will be constructed to comply with all the articles in ASME Section III, Subsection NF. All components will be installed in accordance with the code and addenda identified above except for the final connections to the existing AFW system which will be perforced to the original constuc-tion codes ANSI B31.1 1967 and ANSI B31.7 1967 including the 1970 addenda.
You indicate that neither your company nor your contractor performing the installation of the third AFW train possess a valid tertification of Authorization for use of the NA Code Symbol Stamp. Teerefore, the NA Stamp will not be applied to the appropriate components. However, to assure proper installation of components, Factory Mutual will provide a third party inspectio, We find that since the constructicn of the components for the third AFW train will be in accordance with the applicable codes and standards including Code Symbol Stamping, and installation will meet the specified code 8102190(pN f
