Dear Mr. Parris:
63 By letter dated July 8,1980, we requested additional infomation regarding containment purge valve isolation at Browns Ferry Units 1, 2 and 3.
By letter dated November 19, 1980, you submitted a response to items 1, 2, 3 and 4 and indicated that a response to items 5 and 6 would be submitted by April 1, 1981. After reviewing your response and realizing the effort required to respond to our original request, it has been detemined that the scope of our review should be changed so that extensive qualifica-tion infomation will not be required to satisfy the concerns covered by item 5 in our letter of July 8,1980.
In order to satisfy our review criteria, the only response we need from you is a statement that:
(1) the nuclear radiation monitors which initiate ESF signals are or are not safety-grade equipment and (2) that all instrumentation and control equip-j" ment which initiates an ESF signal will or will not withstand the environ-ment (including postulated accident conditions) where it is located.
The j
environment shall also include seismic requirements.
l The submittal of qualification documentation, requested by items 5 and 6, in our letter of July 8,1980, will therefore not be needed for our evaluation of containment purge valve isolation.
