Subject:

Inservice Inspection of Reactor Coolant System Pressure Isolation Valves

Dear Mr. Denton:

As requested on December 10, 1980 by Mr. Tony Cappucci of your staff, the following additional information is provided in regard to the Reactor Coolant System pressure isolation valves for McGuire Nuclear Station Unit 1.

This letter supplements our submittal on November 24, 1980, 1.

The valves listed in the attached revised list of Reactor Coolant System pressure isolation valves will be defined as Category A.

2.

In regard to Item 5 of our letter of November 24, 1980, the integrity of the Class B piping in the reactor coolant hot leg safety injection lines will be verified initially and

{,

wi,th an inservice inspection program consisting of a Class 2 hydrostatic test.

Note that valves NI121A and nil 52B were

~~

de~ signed to be reactor coolant isolation valves and are qualified to withstand reactor coolant system design pressure.

Mr. Harold R. Denton, Director December 18, 1980 Page Two 3.

The attached list of Reactor Coolant System pressure isolation valves has been revised to include additional valves in the cold leg accumulator discharge lines.

4.

The lines from the boron injection tank are designed to with-stand full Reactor Coolant System pressure and do not form an interface between the high pressure Reactor Coolant System and the low pressure system, however, since these lines are Class B piping, the integrity of this piping will be verified initially and with an inservice inspection program consisting of a Class 2 hydrostatic tese.

It should be noted that valves in these lines were also designed to withstand reactor coolant system design pressure.

Please advise if you have additional questions.

t Vep truly yours,

/
