SECTION C.1 DISCUSSION OF COMPONENT EVALU/7 ION WORK SHEETS b

The component evaluation sheets are formated in accordance with the sample in IE Bulletin 79-01B.

The Master List is broken down into twenty sections (C.2.1-C.2.20), each section corresponding to a specific plant system.

For each system, component evaluation work sheets have been prepared for all components listed in the Master List. A separate work sheet exists for each line item in the Master List for each system, with the exception of instrument cables, power and control cables, and electrical penetrations. For those items, one work sheet in each system applies to all components of that type for that system. For example, Sheet 6 in Section C.2.10 applies to all power and control cables lir,ted in Section C.2.10 Sheet 1 (IVAED06Q, IVAED06E, IVBEE09Q, and IVBEE09E).

The component evaluations have been based on an extensive research of the qualification documents.

Where qualification documents were not available, evaluations were made by engineering analysis of the component materials. Where necessary, vendor information was obtained in preparing the engineering analysis.

For all devices, both in-containment and outside, the manufacturer, model number, location, area and floor elevation were based on engineering documents. The information will be verified on a sample basis during a walkdown at the next unit refueling.

Flood elevation was considered for equipment located both inside and outside the containment. The elevation indicated on the component evaluation sheets for in-containment equipment represents the probable maximum flood level based on the RCS inventory, the SI accumulators and hur the RWST emptying into the containment. As discussed in the FSAR, C.1-1 Rev. 2

Ssetion 3K.4.1.2.7, the worst case flooding concern is a main feedline break. Flooding in the main steam room due to a main feedline break is b

limited by automatic controls, to a level of 3'-5" above the floor.

This level is well below the lowest safety related equipment. For this reason, flooding was not included on component evaluation worksheets for equipment outside Fae containment.

As stated in the " Dites _ssion of Master list," all devices in the auxiliary building have been evaluated for radiation resistance only for an accident inside containment (recirculation of containment sump liquid). Temperature, pressure and humidity outside HELB areas are considered no worse than that during a normal unit shutdown. The

" Discussion of Master List" identifies the High Energy Line Breaks (HELB) in the Auxiliary Building.

The radiation dose levels in the auxiliary building for a post in-containment accident are based on calculations developed for response to "NUREG 0578 Short Term Requirements," Item 2.1.6.b (" Plant Shielding Review"). Radiation qualification requirements were not specified for all equipment bought for outside containment use.

However, based on the available data and engineering analysis. all the equipment has been evaluated for the radiation levels, and all lound acceptable. A summary of these calculations is presented in Section C.3.

Where noted in the " Environmental Qualification" column of the component evaluation sheet, the NSSS vendor's proprietary information has not been entered. However, a reference is made to the document where the information can be found. An independent evaluation was performed on these documents to assure qualification for the specified accident g,,

environment.

The environmental parameters listed in the " Spec." column under

" Environment" correspond to the accident conditions stated in the FSAR.

These values equal or exceed those set forth in the Enclosure (4)

Cuidelines of lE Bulletin 79.01B, and encompass the equipment qualification parameters appropriate for the spectrum of LOCA's and HELB's.

For the limiting main steam line break, thermal responses of safety-relat:4 components were calculated using the methods presented in NUREG 0588 and were used to establish the required qualification parameters.

For equipment whose safety related function is performed within a short time into an event, a minimum of one hour was assumed to be the specified operating time, even though the actual specified operating time is indicated on the evaluation work sheets, which may be considerably less than one hour.

Unless otherwise snacifically stated to the contrary, the time dependent temperature and pressure qualification profiles envelop the specified or required profiles for each equipment or component for which a work-sheet is provided. The qualification profiles are contained in the reports referenced in Section C.4 in either graphic or tabular form.

Where the words " sequential test" are used to describe the qualification method, it is meant that elements of the test were performed in steps or sequence.

In some cases, aging was performed before irradiation, and vice versa.

In all cases, irradiation and aging were performed before exposing the test specimen to the accident profile. The words

" simultaneous test" mean that the test parameters were applied at the j

same time, or simultaneously.
