l SEQUOYAH 1 & 2 REQUEST FOR INFORMATION REACTOR COOLANT VENT SYSTEM - (ICSB)

REACTOR VESSEL HEAD VENT AND PRESSURIZER VENT The information requested herein pertains to the reactor vessel head vent system and/or the pressurizer vent system as noted by each question.

A.

Your responses to date indicate that the reactor vessel head vent system design will have positive valve position indication.

Your design descrip-tiondoes not state where this indication is to be displayed. The clarifi-i cations state that positive valve position indication should be provided I

in the control room. Please advise if this requirement for the valve l

position indication is satisfied,in your design.

B.

Describe the environmental and seismic qualification of the reactor vessel head and pressurizer vent systems. The information should include as a minimum the environmental and seismic qualification of:

1)Positivevalve position indication system / devices (i.e., stem-mounted limit switches, etc),

2) control components of the systems, and 3) associated cable / cable termina-tions.

C.

Describe the power source (s) associated with the reactor vessel head and i

pressurizer vent systems. This information should include electrical schematics as support information and should be sufficient to assure that the vent systems will be pcwered from an emergency bus.

D.

Demonstrate that provisions to test the reactor vessel head and pressurizer vent systems for operability will be provided in your design.

ENCLOSURE

2 E.

Discuss how your pressurizer vent system design meets the requirement that, "a positive indication of valve position should be provided in the control room".

F.

Provide adequate design information to show that the pressurizer vent system is operable from the control room.

G.

Provide associated piping and instrumentation diagrams for the pressurizer venting system.

H.

Demonstrate that the pressurizer vent system design is such that a single failure within the power and control aspects of the vent system will:

1) Not prevent isolation of the vent system when required, and
2) Not result in inadvertent operation.
