Pett Inquiry Memorandum, same subject, dated November 17, 1970 Messrs. N. Paige, Construction Field Superintendent, and B. Peck, Field QA Engineer for the Midland plants, telephoned our inspector on Decenter 14, 1970, to provide the following information:

1.

Preparations have been completed for the protection and security of equipment and structures at the Midland construction site.

As of Pecember 14, 1970, all craft workers were terminated.

2. - The construction site is protected by a chain-link fence and a guard is to be present at all times.

3.

QC audits are to be made and documented on a weekly basis. These audits are to report on the status and adequacy of the protection of the equipment and structures.

The site dewatering system is to be maintained and operated as needed by Consumers Power Company personnel in residence at Midland, Michigan.

5.

Protection measures consist of intemal storage for critical items i

and outside (but covered protection) for les's critical items. The concrete structures have been covered with about three feet of straw and surrounded with sheets of plywood.

The Bechtel Corporation (San Francisco office) has recently con-=

ducted a QC audit at the site and reviewed the security and protective measures. Bechtel's recomendations.have been implemented.'

Messrs. -Paige' and Peck were notified that Compliance has scheduled an

- inspection at the Midland plant site for January 1971 to review the

. security and protective measures.
