Dear Mr. Watkins:

g This is in response to your letter dated February 27, 1981, in which you requested, pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act, five categories of records pertaining to a study by Gage-Babe.ock & Associates, Inc.,

with regard to the Commission's fire protection rulemaking.

NRC staff provided the following information with regard to the five categories listed in your letter.

1.

The Gage-Babcock report was prepared in response to a verbal request.

2.

A final report has not been issued; NRC staff members have no plans to request a final report.

3.

NRC staff members have not considered, adopted or rejected tae Gage-Babcock recommendation that full scale testing be undertaken.

4.

During a telephone conversation between you and Linda Robinson on March 13, 1981, concerning the scope of your request, you requested search for any communications between NRC and Gage-Babcock on any aspect of the fire protection rule.

NRC staff located 10 items directed to NRC from Gage-Babcock,

as identified on the enclosed appendix. A copy of~ items i

three through eight are now being placed in the Public Document Room under folder F01A-81-75.

The remaining items listed on the Appendix have already been made available j

for public inspection and copying under the appropriate i

docket number noted on the Appendix.

NRC staff could find l

no comun1 cations from NRC to Gage-Babcock.

There are no records of any review or analysis of this report.
