DLC Letter, C. N. Dunn to B. H. Grier, Updated Response to IE Bulletin 79-01B, dated December 31, 1980.

l This refers to your letters (References 1 and 2) to this office regarding l

the status of IE Bulletin 79-01B and a discussion between Mr. J. Carey of your staff and Mr. D. Beckman of this office on January 21, 1981 regarding the same subject.

In reference (1) you infomed us that certain NAMCO limit switches have been replaced with environmentally qualified switches in accordance with comit-ments made in reference (2).

Reference (1) further-stipulated that the limit switches currently installed have not been sealed as required to duplicate the environment under which environmental qualification tests were conducted l

and that a design for sealing these limit switches and other components which may require sealing was in continuing development.

Thereportaccompanyingreference(2)notedthatsealsforthelimitswitches and other components which may require sealing would be installed at the first outage following their delivery in which plant conditions permit replacement, but not later than June 30, 1982. Based on discussions between D. Beckman of this office and Mr. Carey of your staff on January 21, 1981, we understand that these installations have been scheduled for the May-June 1981 non-refueling outage. We further understand that fulfillment of that schedule is based upon development of an acceptable sealing design.

If your schedule should change, please infom this office in writing as soon as possible but no later than May 1,1981.

If our understanding of your plans and schedule as described above is incorrect, please contact this office by telephone and in writing within twenty four hours.
