David Terao Mechanical Engineering Branch Division of Engineering

SUBJECT:

SUtHARY OF NRC/IPC MEETING ON CONFIRMATORY PIPING ANALYSIS FOR CLINTON-1 On November 6,1980, a meeting was held at the Clinton Power Station Unit 1 to discuss the confimatory piping analysis to be perfomed by the NRC.

The purpose of the meeting was (1) to obtain the necessary infomation and piping data to begin the analysis, '2) to visually inspect the installed piping subsystem and (3) to tour t!. main plant in order to familiarize the FSAR reviewers from Battelle Pacific Northwest Laboratory (PNL) with the plant layout.

The Low Pressure Core Spray piping subsystem (Sargent & Lundy subsystem nos. ILP03 and 1RHS8 which have been combined into one subsystem) has been selected for the confimatory analysis.

In the morning, we reviewed the piping infomation package prepared by Sargent & Lundy and discussed the objectives and method of analysis to be used. The computer pmgram ANSYS will be used for the confimatory analysis by PNL.

In addition we discussed the review process of the Mechanical Engineering Branch for the issuance of a SER and the schedule to complete the review.

A tentative date of February 1981 was selected for a draft SER to be sent to the applicant with a follow-up meeting to resolve the open items to be held tentatively in April 1981.

Following the meeting, the IPC representative guided us to the area where the LPCS piping subsystem was located. The NRC/PNL personnel inspected the piping subsystem and existing supports to verify the layout of piping.

It was nuted that a piping nchor location had been changed which was not noted on the S & L drawings.

In the afternoon, wo toured the main plant including the containment, auxiliary and turbine building.
