Dear Mr. Grier:

SA155 KC700 Pipe, 30" x.375" 10CFR50.55(e), POTENTIAL SIGNIFICANT DEFICIENCY NO. 1 AND 2 UNITS HOPE CREEK GENERATING STATION On October 9, 1980, a verbal report was made to Region 1, Office of Inspection and Enforcement representative, Mr. J. Mattia, advising of a potential significant item.

The item concerns two pieces of 30" x.375" carbon steel pipe, ASME SA155, Grade KC70, Class 2, seam welded and fabricated by LaBarge Incorporated, Wagoner, Oklahoma.

The material was found to be lacking radiography of the longi-tudinal weld seam.

The following supplemental information is submitted in accordance with the requirements of 10CFR50.55(e).

Investigative action to date included a field review whfch revealed no other seam welded pipe purchased to date and a field review of application which revealed the pipe's intended use was Nuclear Class 3 but was purchascd as Class 2.

I Corrective action included a nonconformance report issuance l

and return of material to LaBarge for nondestructive examination.

Radiography performed in accordance with requirements of SA155 estattished that each cylinder required weld repair.
