Dear Sir:

On March 21, 1979, Duke Power Company provided notification of intent to file an amendment to the applications for permits to construct and licenses to operate the Catawba Nuclear Station, Units 1 and 2.

The following documents were tendered for acceptance review:

the Final Safety Analyses Report, the Environmental Report-Operating License Stage, the Electrical Schematics, the License Application and the Emergency Plan.

With the March 28, 1979 accident at TMI-2 and the resulting impact on NRC staff manpower coupled with slippage in the construction schedule for the Catawba units, the acceptance review of the tendered documents was never completed.

Theref[ ore, the following dccuments have been updated and are forwarded to you for a completeness review, pursuant to 10CFR 2.101(a) and 50.30(c):

(1) Fifteen copies of the Final Safety Analysis Report for the N001 5 R.,

Catawba Nuclear Station, Units 1 and 2, Volumes 1-12 plus M

Upon your determination of the acceptability of the proposed amendment, we will formally submit the required number of copies of the documents. The Security Plan for Catawba Nuclear Station will be submitted at a later date.
