.t DUKE POWER COMPANY CATAWBA NUCLEAR STATION Infraction:

As required by 10CFR 50, Appendix B, Criterion V and implemented by DPC Topical Report, Paragraph 17.1.5, activities affecting quality shall be prescribed by documented instructions procedures or drawings . . . .

and shall be accomplished in accordance with these instructions, pro-cedures or drawings. Catawba Procedure Q-1 requires any person discovering a nonconforming item to issue a nonconforming item report as soon as possible.

1 Contrary to the above, a nonconforming item report was not issued by respon-sible engineers for known cracks in the auxiliary building between column lines 60-61 along the AA line wall from elevation 594 to 611 and adjacent roof area.

Response

The specific nonconforming situation described in the NRC report has been nonconformed and submitted to Design Engineering for evaluation. To pre-clude future occurrences of this nature, the responsible engineers involved will be re-trained in the requirements of QA Procedure Q-1, Control of Nonconforming Items, by December 31, 1980.
