Dear Mr. Grier:

PRIMARY CONTAINMENT RELIEF VALVES 10CFR50.55(e), POTENTIAL SIGNIFICANT DEFICIENCY NO. 1 UNIT HOPE CREEK GENERATING STATION On March 26, 1980 a verbal report was made to Region 1, Office of Inspection and Enforcement representative, Mr. A. Cerne advising a potential significant item re-garding the primary containment relief valves supplied by GPE Controls.

Supplemental information has been submitted in writing to Region 1, Office of Inspection and Enforcement, indicating that the analysis of this potential problem was continuing.

The most recent submittal was dated August 20, 1980.

The following is an interim report concerning the potential design deficiency in the primary containment relief valves, GPE Controls Model LD240-447.

This report is to establish that the expected conclusion of the investigation by October 24, 1980, indicated in previous correspondence concerning this subject, cannot be met.

The expected completion date of action is December 5, 1980.
