TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS - RADI0 CHEMICAL LOWER LIMIT OF DETECTION (LLD)
This memo is a followup to conversation between J. P. Stohr (FFMSI) and S. Bland on May 31, 1978.
Enclosed for information is a reemo from Region II, dated March 27, 1978, with certain recom.endations concerning proposed Tech Spec changes for Hatch Units 1 and 2 and Crystal River Unit 3.
Your subsequent action for Hatch Units 1 and 2 has been similar to Region II's reco mendations and has satisfied Region II's concerns with the following exception in which we concur.
The present footnotes to the Sampling and Analysis Tables specify allowable alternatives to the LLD specification "for certain radionuclides with low enna yield or low eneroies."
It is recom, ended that some definition be: given here as to wnat constitutes a low yield or low energy, e.g., gama yields below..., and energies below... This would be most helpful with regard to inspection and enforcement.
We understand that EEB is currently working on this and that, when appropriate wording is developed, Tech Spec changes will be made on a generic basis and specifically ror s al River Unit 3.
