CONSUMERS POWER COMPANY Docket 50-155 Request for Change to the Technical Specifications License DPR-6 For the reasons hereinafter set forth, it is requested that the Technical Specifications contained in the Facility Operating License DPR-6, Docket 50-155, issued to Consumers Power Company on May 1,196k, for the Big Rock Point Plant be changed as described in Section I below:

Change Section 3.4.3(b)
Change the last sentence in this subsection to read, " Valves in this control rod hydraulic system line shall open to insure continuous I
water supply, and backup isolation shall be provided by two check valves in the common suction line to the control rod drive pumps."
II.
Discussion The above proposed Technical Specifications change is requested to make the Technical Specifications accurately reflect the new isolation bound-aries for the sucticn side of the control drive pumps that will be pro-vided by the addition of two check valves to be completed during the 1980 refueling outage. The previous boundary, provided by integral valves in the control rod drive pumps, has been determined to be unac-ceptable because of poor leakage rate test history and an associated high incidence of repair. Therefore, it was determined prudent to add two check valves to provide a new isolation boundary. The check valves will provide a more reliable and testable isolation boundary than the integral valves in the control rod drive pumps.
III. Conclusion Based on the foregoing, both the Big Rock Point Plant Review Committee and the Safety and Audit Review Board have reviewed this change and find it acceptable.
