Dear M;. Jones:

SUBJECT:

Environmental Qualification of Electrical Equipment f

This letter transmits an order which requires information to support

?

the environmental qualification of safety related electrical equipment j

at Brunswick Steam Electric Plant Units 1 and 2.

5 Th1 Comission's Memorandum and Order of May 23, 1980 addresses safety related electrical equipment exposed to a harsh environment, inside or outside containment, resulting from an accident.

The Order requires that all such equipment in operating reactors be fully qualified by June 30,1982.

To complete this objective, you.are required to submit, by November 1, 1980, all information to support a safety evaluation of the aforemen-tioned equipment.

If your facility had an established comitment date before November 1,1980, it is fully expected that your submittal will be not later than that comitment date.

If your facility's commitment date is past without a complete submittal, it is strongly recomended that actions be expedited since they have already impacted the staff review schedule.

Briefings were held with all interested licensees during the week of July 17,1980. Enforcement actions relative to this Order were discussed during these briefings.

Sincerely, J

Thomas k. Ippolito, Chief-Operating Reactors Branch #2 Division of Licensing i
