We are enclosing our Safety Evaluation on the conformance to Regulatory Guide 1.97 for Millstone, Unit 2 with its attachment, EG&G Idaho, Inc.,

Technical Evaluation Report (TER) dated September 1989. We have found tha instrumentation provided by Northeast Utilities for Millstone, Unit 2, for meeting the recomendations of Regulatory Guide 1.97 acceptable except for the

. variables accumulator tant level end pressure, containment sump water temperature, residual heat removal (RHR) system flow, low pressure injection system flow, containment spray flow, chemical volume and control system safety features (ESF)ponent cooling water (CCW) temperature to engint.ered letdown flow-out com system, CCW water flow to ESF system, wide range steam generator level, and heat removal by the containment fan heat removal system.

Our Safety Evaluation is based on our review of EG&G's TER EGG.EA-6857.

We request your plans for resolving the issues found unacceptable with specific schedules for resolving the issues within 45 days from receipt of this letter.
