NARRATIVE

SUMMARY

OF OPERATING EXPERIENCE Docket No. 50-266

, Unit Name Point Beach Unit 1 Date August 5, 1980 Completed By C. W. Fay Telephone 414/277-2811 Unit 1 operated at 375 MWe net throughout most of the period with two shutdowns and one load reduction. The load was reduced to 330 MWe net for two hours on July 13, 1980 for turbine stop valve testing.

A leak check of the spent fuel pool detected four very small leaks. The leaks were repaired.

The unit was taken off-line for 1.4 hours4.62963e-5 days
0.00111 hours
6.613757e-6 weeks
1.522e-6 months
on July 24, 1980, due to a high differential pressure across the circulating water screens caused by a buildup of alewives that entered the intake crib.

The unit was taken off-line at 0123 hours0.00142 days
0.0342 hours
2.03373e-4 weeks
4.68015e-5 months
on July 26, 1980, for the 90 effective full power day steam generator testing and repair outage. An 800 psig secondary-to-primary leak check of both steam generators was performed on July 28, 1980.

In the "A" steam generator, two dripping explosive plugs and two wet end plugs were identified in the hot leg with no leaks detected in the cold leg. In the "B" steam generator, one wet end explosive plug and one dripping tube were identified in the hot leg with no leaks detected in the cold leg. Further investigation including eddy current examination is being conducted.

Pertinent maintenance being performed during the shut-down are condensate pump seal repairs and charging line isolation valve repairs. The auxiliary feed line orifice flange modification was initiated. No other major safety related maintenance was per-formed during the period.
