Dear Mr. O'Reilly:

In response to your letter of May 12, 1980, transmitting IE Bulletin 80-13, Carolina Power & Light Company submits the following information:

The Brunswick Steam Electric Plant Unit No. 1 core spray spargers and in-vessel piping have been visually inspected using Periodic Test 90.1, and no indication of cracking was noted. At the time of receipt of the bulletin, refueling operations had been completed and the vessel head installed on Brunswick Unit No. 2.

For this reason, the Unit 2 inspection will be performed at its next refueling outage.

As requested in the bulletin, each unit will be inspected during all future refueling outages until further notice with a follow-up report to be issued within thirty (30) days of the completion of the test.

Very truly yours, B. J. Furr Vice President Nuclear Operations RMP/DCS/tma*
