DOCKET NO. 50-346 DELETION OF NATURAL CIRCULATION TEST In revision 20 to the subject FSAR, the licensee deleted the test description for the Natural Circulation Test which was to be conducted during the power escalation phase of testing.
This test had been described on page 14-103 of the FSAR.
Because of my concern over the lack of any supporting documentation to justify this deletion, I contacted the LPM (L. Engle) for Davis-Besse 1 on October 14, 1976. At his suggestion, I then contacted G. Mazetis of DSS who concurred with the LPM that the test should be conducted.
Davis-Besse 1 utilizes an elevated steam generator design, and NRR believes that verification of the natural circulation performance of this design is necessary.

With the concurrence of the LPM, I have contacted the station to inform ii them of the informal NRR position on this test so they can factor the test back into their startup testing program.
