Mr. A. Schwencer, Chief Pressurized Water Reactors Branch No. 4 Directorate of Licens.ng U.S. Atomic Energy Commission Washington, D.C.

20545 Docket No. 50-346

Dear Mr. Schwencer:

Your letter of April 30,1973 requested that we review the control circuits and procedures of all Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station safety related equipmeat to assure that disabling of one component does not render other components inoperable. All modes of test, operation and failure were to be considered including the rael.ed out position of related breakers.

A review of the control circuits of all safety related equipment has been made with the finding that disabling of one component will not render other redundant components inoperable. Safety control circuits yet to be designed will comply with this independence requirement.

In accordance with proposed Station Technical Specifications to assure operability of the remaining part of a redundant system when removing a portion from senice, procedures will require that the remaining redundant components be tested prior to initiating maintenance.

Yours very truly, c.,i.h.-

., Glenn J. Sampson mj cc/4
