DEC 0 61976 MEMORANDUM FOR R. Goller, Assistant Director for Operating Reactors FROM:

D. G. Eisenhut, Assistant Director for Operational Technology

SUBJECT:

FLOODING OF TURBINE BUILDING Recently the staff has been reviewing the turbine building flooding inci-dent that occurred at Oconee. Because of the potential significance of this issue and because we are preparing a " feedback memorandum" detailing the flooding, it is probably desirable to determine, on a timely basis, i

if the discussed event is unique to the Oconee facility or not.

Accordingly, we would appreciate you undertaking to have the ORPMs exam-ine any available previous licensee responses on this technical issue (many licensees responded to this concern in late J972,pr early 1973).

If no previous record concerning this issue is.found, se believe that it

~

y is appropriate for each ORPM to orally discuss thR issue with,th'e.licen-

~

sees to determine if th?ir plant is susceptible to this potent'ial problem.

The D0R coordinator for this issue will be J. Guibert who will assemble a summary status for each facility. The appropriate OT reviewing branch, Plant Systems Branch, will conduct any reviews determined necessary from this survey.
