A licensee representative contacted Region II by telephone on April 16 and 17, 1973 B.
Description of Particular Event or Circumstances:
During performance of routine tests on a work bench, prior to energizing, scme Allis-Chalmers (A-C) motor control centers (MCC's) ordered on Purchase Order 6600-E-11, it was found that the mechanical interlocks had excessive tolerances so that it was possible to close both contacts of the reversing starter at the same time (if the electrical interlocks were disabled).
The vendor agreed to change out all excessive tolerance parts on all Size 1 reversing starters even though some were marginal. No problem was found in the electrical interlocks of these starters during checkout and, since no problems were found with them, Bechtel Engineering Corpora-tion (Bechtel) advised that they do not consider this item reportable under 10 CFR 50 55(e). APLL concurs with Bechtel.
