B. H. Grier, Director, Division of Reactor Inspection Programs, OI6E REQUESTFORhCHNICALREVIEWOFREACTOP,BUILDINGDUCTWORKMODIFICATIONS, ARKANSAS POWER AND LIGHT COMPANY, UNIT NO.1 - DOCKET NO. 50-313 Your memorandum of April 29, 1974 requested that we review an Arkansas Power 6 Light Company (APSL) report dealing with a design i,
deficiency in the Arkansas Nuclear One Unit 1 Reactor Building Cooling System to determine the adequacy of the corrective action.
We have reviewed the report (cover letter dated April 1,1974) and Addendum 1 to that report filed by the applicant (now licensee) by cover letter dated April 26, 1974. The documents indicate that O
the structurally deficient ductwork was redesigned and subsequently modified in accordance with the new design, On the bases that ductwork design of this nature is simple and fairly routine, and that an independent t1rm has pressure tested tull scale models of the redesigned sections and found the ductwork to perform satisfactorily under the most adverse accident conditions which might be encountered, we conclude that tha corrective action taken by the licensee is adequate and additional review of the ductwork design is not warranted.
