The USNRC, in Generic Letter 88-20. Reference (b), requeste6 within 60 days oft receipt.'of the final' guidance documents for Individual Plant Examinations (IPE) that Yankee provide its proposed program for completing the IPE for Yankee Nuclear Power Station.
The final guidance documents were lprovided on September 1, 1989.
Yankee met with the NRC on May 10, 1989 and August 29, Ir)89. We informed you of our' intention to provide a severe accident closure submittal for YNPS which addresses,.'.in an integrated single evaluation, all four elements of the i'
NRC's severe accident policy statement, specifically:
1.-
Individual Plant Examination (IPE) 2.
. Individual Plant Examination External Events (IPEEE) 3.
Containment Performance Improvements (CPI) h 4.
Accident Management (AM).
The method and approach will use probabilistic (PRA) and traditional i
safety analyses. Yankee will rely, in part, on previous licensing submittals including the Probabilistic Safety Study (Reference (d)) end the Systematic i
Evaluat*on Program (SEP).
