ACCEPTANCE FOR REVIEW OF WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC COMPANY REQUEST TO MODIFY SAFETY EVALUATION REPORT ON WCAP-12472-P-A, BEACONTM CORE MONITORING AND OPERATIONS SUPPORT SYSTEM (EPID: L-2019-TOP-0033)

Dear Ms. Zozula:

By letter dated September 9, 2019 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System Accession No. ML19253A107), Westinghouse Electric Company (Westinghouse) submitted to U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) request to modify safety evaluation report for the previously approved WCAP-12472-P-A, BEACONTM Core Monitoring and Operations Support System.

The NRC performed an acceptance review and found that the material presented is sufficient to begin our review. We expect to issue our initial request for additional information by February 7, 2020 and issue a draft safety evaluation by June 5, 2020. This schedule information takes in consideration the NRCs current review priorities and available technical resources and may be subject to change. If modifications to these dates are deemed necessary, we will provide appropriate updates to this information.

The NRC staff estimates that the review will require approximately 155 staff hours including project management time. The review schedule milestones and estimated review costs were agreed upon via email between Carmen Teolis, Westinghouse, and the NRC staff on November 20, 2019.

Section 170.21 of Title 10 of the CFR requires that TRs are subject to fees based on the full cost of the review. You did not request a fee waiver; therefore, NRC staff hours will be billed accordingly.

If you have questions regarding this matter, please contact me at (301) 415-3151.

Sincerely, Ekaterina Lenning, Project Manager Licensing Projects Branch Division of Operating Reactor Licensing Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission
