SUBJECT:

SUMMARY

OF NOVEMBER 21, 2019, CLOSED MEETING ON HF CONTROLS AMENDMENT 4 OPEN ITEMS (EPID: L-2018-TOP-0031)

On November 21, 2019, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff held a closed meeting with representatives of HF Controls (HFC). The meeting was to discuss the open items that the NRC staff identified during its review of Submittal of Non-proprietary Information for Amendment 4 to the HFC-6000 Safety Platform (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML19109A165). Information from the meeting can be found in ADAMS Package Accession No. ML19325C753.

The meeting began with HFC making a background presentation on the information provided in Amendment 4. A non-proprietary copy of the presentation can be found in the ADAMS package. During the presentation, the NRC staff asked clarifying questions.

After the presentation, the NRC staff and HFC representatives engaged in detailed discussions on the open items. Because the open items contain proprietary information, no specifics are provided in this summary.

During the meeting, the HFC informed the NRC staff that its software development process is excluded from the review of this HFC-Field Programmable Gate Array platform and will be treated as an application specific action item. As discussed during the meeting, HFC should take actions to submit and docket a few documents according to Interim Staff Guidance (ISG)-06 Digital Instrumentation and Controls (DI&C)ISG-06, Revision 2, Licensing Process, such as failure modes and effects analyses, summary test report, etc.
