!: i: i I On May 7, 1980, while cerformina monthly surveillance testino of the l 60 3, I reactor high oressure scram sensors, RE030 was found to be less conserv- I i3 ij i ative than specified in the Technical Specifications. The safety I j e is; ; significance of this event is considered minimal since RE030 would have i ge,a , actuated, but rt a pressure 9 psig higher than the crescribed value of l

the desired pressure. l

This event is cons:dered to be a reportable occurrence as defined in the Techni-cal Specifications, paragraph 6.9.2.b.1.

Conditions Prior to Occurrence The plant was shutdown for a refueling / maintenance outage.

The reactor cavity was flocded.

The reactor was subcritical.

The reactor mode switch was locked in the SHUTDCWN position.

Descriotion of Occurrence On Wednesday, May 7, 1980, at approximately 0117 hours0.00135 days
0.0325 hours
1.934524e-4 weeks
4.45185e-5 months
, while performing mc.'thly surveillance testing of the reactor high pressure scram sensors, RE030 was f ound to be less conservative than that specified in the Technical Specifications.

Tests on all reactor high pressure switches revealed the following data: .

Repor' table Occurrence No. 50-219/80-18/3L Page 2 June 5, 1980 Aooarent Cauce of Occurrence The cause of switch RE030 tripping at 1075 PSIG is attributed to sensor repeat-ability.

Analysis of Occurrence RE03D pressure switch would have actuated but at a pressure 9 PSIG greater than ,

it's prescribed value of 1066 PSIG. The only safety significance of this event

was the loss of redundancy in the pressure switch actuation at the prescribed set point.

j Corrective Action Reactor high pressure sensor RE030 was reset to trip within the prescribed limits.
