Dear Mr. Grier:
PRIMARY CONTAINMENT RELIEF VALVES 10CFR50.55(e), POTENTIAL SIGNIFICANT DEFICIENCY NO. 1 UNIT HOPE CREEK GENERATING STATION On March 26, 1980 a verbal report was made to Region 1, Office of In-spection and Enforcement representative, Mr. A. Cerne advising of a potential significant item regarding the primary containment vacuum relief valves supplied by GPE Controls.
The following supplemental information is hereby submitted pursuant to our initial report and in accordance with the requirements of 10CFR50.55(e).
GpE Controls identified a potential design deficiency in primary con-tainment vacuum relief valves, Model LD240-447.
The deficiency was discovered during review of the stress analysis report and involved pallet hinge mounting block bolting.
The current actions and considerations underway at the present time are recalculation of bolting stresses and possible replacing of'colting material.
The determination of corrective action necessary to resolve subject design deficiency and to access reportability in accordance with 10CFR50.55(e) is scheduled for completion May 22, 1980, at which time a report will be made to the NRC.
