Docket No.:
50-320 Mr. R. C. Arnold Senior Vice President Metropolitan Edison Company 100 Interpace Parkway Parsippany, New Jersey 07054 Oear Mr. Arnold:
r
Subject:
Independent study to be condu:ted by the Union of Concerned Scientists t'
This is to advise you that Governor Thornburgh has established a
Blue Ribbon Panel" to independently evaluate the alternatives for venting the TMI-2 reactor. building.
It is my understanding that the Governor will use the results of this study in his decision making process as to whether or not he would support the NRC Staff's recom-mendations to vent the reactor building. The NRC in separate actions' met with Robert Pollard, Union of Concerned Scientists, and agreed to furnish the Panel certain information about the plant status and the need to purge the reactor building.
I spoke with Mr. Pollard and he identified the information they will need to proceed with their study.
In my review of the questions, I found that some.of them can best be answered by Met-Ed.
I have attached for your review a list of the questions and also a list of the panel members. Folicwing your review, I would likc to set up a meeting with representatives of the Panel and your designated representatives.
Please advise me j
as to the earliest possible date you would be able to meet with the
" Blue Ribbon Panel".
i Sincerely, h /Ye6k.N John T. Collins Deputy Program Manager TMI Program Office l
