8005190547 May 12, 1980 Trojan Nuclear Plant Docket 50-344 License NPF-1 Director of Nuclear Reactor Regulation ATTN:

Mr. Robert A. Clark, Chief Operating Reactors Branch No. 3 Division of Operating Reactors U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D. C.

20555

Dear Sir:

Your letter of March 18, 1980 requested additional information relating to the Containment purge issue in order for your staff to complete a review of the PGE submittal dated January 3, 1979.

As discussed during a telephone conversation on May 7, 1980 between mem-bers of your staff and PCE, the scope of the information request had been expanded from the original issue of the Containment Purge System to all Engineered Safety Feature (ESF) systems.

PGE is currently conducting a similar review regarding reset control of all ESF systems in response to IE Bulletin 80-06 which was issued on March 13, 1980. These two NRC requests are interrelated and cover similar areas of review.

The required response date for IE Bulletin 80-06 is June 15, 1980 and the preliminary result of its review will not be available until the beginning of June.

Therefore, PGE will submit the requested additional information on the..

Containment Purge System on or before June 15, 1980 in conjunction with the other review effort for IE Bulletin 80-06.

Unless notified otherwise, we are proceeding with this schedule.

Sincerely, C. Goodwin, Jr.

Assistant Vice President Thermal Plant Operation and Maintenance CG/KM/4jed10A3 l
