SUBJECT:

AMENDMENTS TO CONSTRUCTION PERMITS FOR GRAND GULF NUCLEAR STATION, UNIT NOS.1 AND 2 The Commission has issued the enclosed Mendments No. 5 to Construction Permits CPPR-118 and CPPR-119. These amendments are in response to your recuest of July 10, 1979 as supplemented by your letter of September 12, 1979.

These amendments allow a change in the Environmental Projection Program to delete a requirement for mdnitoring and documenting stage and correlating stage with surface water quality measurements.

'de ilave evaluated the potential for environmental impact of the proposed amendments.

It is the staff's conclusion that these changes in the Environmental Protection Program are acceptable. Having made this deter-mination, we have further concluded that the amendments involve action which is insignificant from the standpoint of environmental impact, and pursuant to 10 CFR Sections Sl.5(d)(4), an environmental impact statement, negative declaration, or environment.a1 impact appraisal need not be prepared in connection with the issuance of these amendments.

A copy of the related Federal Recister Notice is also enclosed.

Sincerely,

~

Aonald L. Ballard, Chief Environmental Projects Branch 1 Division of Site Safety and Environmental Analysis.
