OF MARCH 24, 1980 MEETING ON SAFETY REVIEW PROGRESS AND PLANS Summary I

A meeting was held in Bethesda, Maryland with representatives of the Texas Utilities Generating Company (TUGCO) on March 24, 1980. TUGC0 was represented by Messrs:

C. K. Feist and D. R. Woodlan. The NRC staff was represented by S. B. Burwell. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the pr: grass of the safety review. We discussed the content of the forthcoming FSAR Amencinent 10 and the scope of the remaining outstanding questions. We discussed the ongoing review by Argonne National Laboratory and EG&G Idaho, and plans for issuing questions originating from these sources. We also discussed the program for environmental qualification of safety-related electrical equipment.

Meeting Details The applicant advised he will be filing FSAR Amendment 10 about the end of March 1980. Amendment 10 will complete initial responses to all acceptance review questions, all but about four Round One Questions, and all but one j

of the Round Two Questions issued to date. The criterion on instrument tubing supports requested by the NRC letter of November 16, 1979 will be included.

The applicant will continue to work on about a dozen questions to complete or supplement their earlier responses. The results of the analysis on dynamic asymmetric loads on primary coolant system components requested by the NRC letter of June 8,1979 will be provided in FSAR Amendment 11.

We discussed the progress of the review at Argonne National Laboratory. The instrumentation and control review has produced the list of draft questions attached to the NRC Meeting Notice dated March 4,1980. These will be reviewed at the meeting on March 25, 1980. Then the questions will be revised and sent to the applicant in about three weeks. We have received draft questions from Argonne National Laboratory on power systems. These are being reviewed by v

Texas Utilities Generating Co. April 15,1980 the NRC staff and will be sent to the applicant on a similar schedule. We have also received draft questions from EG&G Idaho on reactor systems. We plan to complete our review and send these to the applicant by late April.

In a gereric letter dated February 5,1980 the NRC requested industry comments on NURE'i-0588. For Comment, " Interim Staff Position on Environmental Qualifi-cation of Safety-Related Electrical Equipment." The applicant comented on NUREG-0588 in a letter to Mr. A. J. Szukiewicz (NRC) dated March 17, 1980.

Additional comments on NUREG-0588 will be sent to the NRC staff in several weeks. On February 21, 1980 the NRC issued a generic letter to operating license applicants requesting additional infomation based upon the above NUREG-0588. The applicant requested that we schedule a meeting on environ-mental qualification of safety-related electrical equipment to discuss the relationship between earlier submittals on this subject, the "For Coment" issue of NUREG-0588, the final issue of NUREG-0588, and our request for additional infomation dated February 21, 1980.
