Under the provisions of the operating license Technical Specifications and/or 10CFR 21, NRC Region II was notified on March 11, 1980 of a deficiency in the stress analysis of certain Class II lines in the low and high head safety injection system.

Description of defect, deficiency, or failure to comply:
kD Class II (Q2) lines in the low and high head safety injection system could be subjected to finid temperatures in the 40*-50*F range during the injection phase of the Emergency Core Cooling Systes Several lines in the system have not been stress analyzed l;
for finid temperatures below 70*F.
If the umil temperatures of these pipes drops below 70*F, limits on equipment and pipe supports '
conid be created which have not been previonaly analysed.

Corrective action which has been, is being or will be taken, the individual responsible and the length of tfane to complete the action.
Several pin aupport modifications have been determined necessary.
New support designs for pipe restraints SI-R-80 and SI-R-86 have been completed and will be implemented by Stone & Webster as soon as practicable.
