Regulatory Guide 1.83, Inservice Inspection of Pressurized Water Reactor Steam Generator Tubes, copy enclosed, was issued in June 1974. The effec-tive date of the guide is September 1,.1974.
It describes the features of an acceptable program for inservice inspection of steam generator tubing and provides guidance to licensees regarding implementation of an Ecceptable schedule for inservice inspection. It also states that other programs of inspection proposed by applicants and licensees may be deter-mined to be acce'ptable if they provide a comparable level of inspection.
Paragraph D.4 of the guide states that technical specifications for casuring inspection and reporting as recommended in the guide should be incorporated in operating licenses as soon as practical. Accordingly, you are requested to submit, as soon as practical before September 1, 1974, a proposed change to your technical specifications, in the form of an application for license amendment, establishing. requirements for a program of steam generator tube inspection and the reporting of results.
