Docket No. 50-289
1
Metropolitan Edison Company
ATTN: Mr. J. G. Herbein
Vice President - Generation
P. O. Box 542
Reading, Pennsylvania 19640
Gentlemen:
Subject:
Inspection 50-289/78-26
This refers to your letter dated January 29, 1979, in response to our
letter dated January 9,1979.
With respect to the ultrasonic examination of weld FW-Wl, weld FW-W2 and
weld HP-WS, our understanding, as will be documented in inspection
report number 50-289/79-05, is that re-examination of the welds will be
done in accordance with ultrasonic examination procedure 1300-lE, Revision
4, using an examination frequency of 2.25 MHz-
With respect to the examination of steam generator lower manway studs,
it is our understanding, based on a calephone discussion between Mr. W.
Stanley of your staff and Mr. McB earty on February 13,1979, that
Nuclear Energy Services will provide documentation certifying that studs
SGa-17M through SGa-32M were examined on April 8,1978 from the end
surface in accordance with NES Procedure NIP-020, Revision 1, and that
the data sheet dated April 8. 1978 erroneously indicates that the exam-
ination was done from the outside diameter (0.0.) surface.
Your cooperation with us is appreciated.
Since ely,
