O' APPENDIX A NOTICE OF VIOLATION Metropolitan Edison Company Docket No. 50-289 This refers to the inspection conducted by representatives of Region I (Philadelphia) office at Three Mile Island Nuclear Station, Unit 1. of activities authorized by NRC License No. DPR-50.
During this inspection conducted on December 12-14, 1978, the following apparent item of noncompliance was identified.
This item is an infraction.
The Three Mile Island, Unit 1 Technical Specification 4.2.1 states, in part, "...The inservice inspection program is in accordance with the ASME Code Section XI,... dated January 1,1970, as modified by the Winter 1970 Addenda."
ASME,Section XI, Paragraph 15-213.2, states, in part, " Ultrasonic examination....shall be conducted in accordance with the provisions of Appendix IX,...of Section III."
Appendix IX,Section III, Paragraph IX-346, states, in part, "The nominal frequency shall be 2.25 MHz Contrary to the above, the data included in data sheet 018-23 and 018-28 documented that on April 5 and 6,1978, feedwater piping weld FW-W-1 and weld FW-W-2 were examined using a 3.5 MHz transducer pulsed at 5.0 MH[ransducer pulsed at 2.25 MH.
