Mr. Peter A. Morris, Director Division of Reactor Licensing United States Ator.ic Energy Commission 1717 E Street Washington, D, C.

Dear Mr. Morris:
This is in reply to your letter dated August 22, 1969, to all Utilities constructing or operating a nuclear power plant, relative to the Fish and Wildlife Service environmental survey requirements.
Our environmental radioactivity monitoring program for Rancho Seco Nuclear Generating Station, Unit No.1 is scheduled to go into effect in early 1972.
Therefore, we will not have any reports on this activity until some time after this date.
Relative to reports on the aquadic envirorsaant,. Rancho Seco Nuclear Generating Station is located on a " dry" site and will have a 4
closed cycle cooling system using hyperbolic, natural draft cooling towers. The blowdown from this system will flow into an existing dry creek in the area and eventually into the Sacramento River, approximately 25 miles from the site.
Very truly yours, John. Mattimoe Assistant Chief Engineer DR:sm
