.Mi.~.Herdt on January 23-25, 1973, we submit the following. reply to the indica,ted appaieni;.non.complian;ss with Appendix B..to 10 CFR50.
'Wtth respect' to. Item ho. '73-1/Al Decdy. Heat and Makeup and Purification.
Systems '.'elding, the following acti,on was taken:
1.
A review of 730 completed Field Weld Data Sheets was made.
Results of the review show that nineteen (19) welds were completed to Procedure SS-1-Tig using the wrong rod size for part of the weld. These nineteen welds will be 100%
radiography inspected to provide evidence that the welds are acceptable.
2.
Welding procedure SS-1-Tig has since been revised to allow the use of 3/32" filler metal for the first pass.
3.
FPC Work Procedure No. W-21 has also been revisec' to require the applicable welding procedure number to be stated on l-the Welding Rod Withdrawal Order.
Only rod sizes called for by the procedure will be issued to the welder.
4.
The welding inspectors have been instructed to check to see that weld rod size in use is in accordance with the procedure, in addition to other inspection checks.

Piping supervision issued instructions to the foremen in charge of welding, stressing the importance of strict adherence to welding procedures, including proper rod size.
6.
Quality control has added a Q.C. ' Inspector whose primary duty is to, perform in-p,rocess inspections of welding operations.
