Dear Mr. Fiore111:

Toledo Edison acknowledges receipt of your March 17, 1977 letter and report enclosure 77-06 referencing an apparent deviation from Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station Unit No.1 commitments to the NRC, listed as " Deviations" under the heading "Other Significant Items".

ps Following a thorough examination of the items of concern, Toledo Edison

(

herein offers information regarding this item including corrective actions and date of corrective action.

1 Item D Deviations Contrary to the FSAR, Paragraph 9.5.4, Revision 4, dated January 1974, infrared flame detectors have not been provided in the emergency diesel generator and diesel fire pump rooms.

Response

During the final design of the fire detection system, photoelectric smoke detectors for these areas were selected to provide a more sensitive detection system. The FSAR, however, was not t.fised to reflect these changes. The approprhte FSAR changes have now been submitted to NRR under date of April 7, 1977 by my letter Serial No. 257.

Yours very truly, LER:ss V
