Motivation Ex-plant materials may be valuable because they have been exposed to actual in-service plant operating conditions
- Can reduce the uncertainty associated with the applicability of the aging conditions Insights from research on harvested materials can address technical data needs identified for extended plant operation With plants shutting down both in the U.S. and internationally, there are increasing opportunities to harvest components from decommissioning plants
- Past harvesting efforts generally more reactive as opportunities arose, rather than proactively planned Lessons learned from past harvesting programs can help improve future harvesting efforts
- Challenges encountered in previous programs can be shared and mitigated or avoided in future programs 4
