l' MAR 2 7 G72 NOTE TO FILES

.CCMMERCIAL POWER AVAILABILITY OF OCONEE NUCLEAR STATION UNIT 1 In' order to obtain scheduling information reisting to Oconee Nuclear Station Unit 1, Austin Thies of Duke Power Company was contacted and provided the following information.

Prior to discovery of the debris in the reactor coolant system, he had identified to representatives of the state of South Carolina that the earliest commerical availability was expected to be August 1972.

This means that Unit 1 would not be available to meet the summer 1972

' load peak.

Subsequent' to the discovery of the debris in the reactor coolant system, Mr. Fishburne of the Atlanta Office of FPC asked Mr. Thies what delays this problem might represent in the availability of Unit 1 for commercial operation.

Mr. Thies said 'he told Mr. Fishburne that he could not make an estimate of slippage until the extent and cause of the problem are determined and that this is new underway.

Mr. Thics told Mr. Fishburne that, depending on the findings, the delay might be short or long - possibly even affecting the winter 1972 load peak.

Mr. Thies said-that this informal telephone contact with Mr. Fishburne is the extent of Duke's discussions with FPC concerning the effects of this problem on the availability of Unir 1 for commercial operation.
