This event is considered to be a reportable occurrence as defined in the Tech-l nical Specifications, paragraph 6.9.2.a.2.

f Conditions Prior to Occurrence l.

The plant was shutdown for a refueling / maintenance outage, u

h Descrintion of Occurrence Cn Thursday, June 5, 1980 following an inspection of fire barriers protecting

[ safety related areas, it was reported that several penetrations were found in a degraded condition. The purpose of the inspection was to fornulate a surveil-

}' lance procedure for the inspection of the ne:essary fire barriers. The condi-tiens of the barriers which raised concern was:

'e Cne c:mduit penetrating the barrier bet..een the cable spreading room lt 1)

N and itt centrol room had not been sealed around it's exterior.

o i .1 2) Several conduit penetrations had not been sealed at the open end in the control room where wires entered the panels.

3) A cable penetration of the C Battery Room was found not to be scaled.

7 An inspection of all areas of concern was completed at approxinately 1430 hours0.0166 days <br />0.397 hours <br />0.00236 weeks <br />5.44115e-4 months <br /> follo.ving the discovery. The next inst,ection of the a reas v.as not ccnducted g:

e ;u i pment is available to contain a fire thould it Corrective Action A fire watch of the areas of concern was conducted until all of the penetrations were repaired. All penetrations found in a degraded condition were estooin3hed to their required condition. Those personnel involved with the failure to carry out the required fire watch were instructed as to the ir-portance of the fire ,

watch and the net.essity to provide the information to succeeding shifts. Inspec- '

tions of fire barriers are continuing. Fire barriers found to have been pene-trated not satisfying the requirements of the Oyster Creek Fire Protection Pro-gram will be repaired as required.
