Dear Mr. Stolz:
In your letter of February 11, 1977, you requested Florida Power Corporation to supply within thirty (30) days from receipt of your letter a list of the thermal margin credits which B&W has claimed for Crystal River Unit 3 to help offset the reduction in departure from nucleate boiling ratio (DNBR).
At the request of Florida Power Corporation, Babcock & Wilcox has evaluated the thermal-hydraulic desig,' of the Crystal River Unit 3 Nuclear Generating Plant and has identified the following four (4) thermal margin credits used to offset the DNBR reduction which results from fuel rod bowing.
1.
Flow Area (Pitch) reduction 2.
Densification Power Spike removal 3.
Excess Flow over that used in safety analyses 4.
Safety Analyses were performed at 2568 MW(t) and licensed power l
level for Crystal River #3 is 2452 MW(t).
It should be pointed out that credit #3, Excess Flow, has not been verified at CR#3, but it is anticipated that the startup testing and initial full-power heat balance tests once completed at Crystal River Unit 3 will demonstrate excess reactor coolant system flow over that used in Safety Analyses.
