1. Facility: Crystal River Unit #3
2. Report Date: 2 May 1977
3. Occurrence Date: 13-14 April 1977
4. Identification of Occurrence:

Biomass of fish and shellfish impinged on the intake screens of Units 1, 2, and 3 exceeded the 50 kg/24hr reporting level of Section 3.1.3 of the Environmental Technical Specifications.

5. Conditions Prior to Occurrence:

Unit #1 - 3 of 4 water circulation pumps non-operation (Unit 1 down,

, Maintenance). ,

Unit #2 - All water circulation pumps operational. 4

6. Description of Occurrence:

During the period 1000 13 April 1977 to 1000 14 April 1977, 64.77 kg of fish and shellfish were impinged on the intake screens of crystal River Units 1, 2, and 3. Of the 64.77 kg impinged, Unit 3 accounted for 34.77 kg (54% of total). Two commercially unimportant species, the batfish and the cowfish accounted for 34.75 kg (54% of total). Two commercially utilized species, the pink shrimp an ' the blue crab ac-counted for 22.55 kg (35% of total). Impingement of all other commer-cially utilized species was less than 1 kg during the period in question.

The remaining biomass impinged was distributed among several species of fish and shellfish.

7. Designation of Apparent Cause of Occurrence:

No unusual or periodic events were noted prior to or during the occurrence.

It is probable that the event was normal or possibly a seasonal event.
