Occurrence Date: April 21, 1977 4.
Identification of Occurrence:
I=pingeme$t sa:pling of fish and shellfish of Units 1, 2 and 3 was discontinued because of clogged collecting devices.

Conditions Prior to occurrence:
Unit #1 - 1 of 4 water circulation pu=ps non-operational fres 0717 to 0800 on 4/21/77.
Unic #2 - All water circulation pu=ps operational.
Unic #3 - All water circulation pu=ps operational.

Descriotion of Occurrence:
During initial operation of the intake screens at Crystal River on April 21, 1977 an unusually large number of Ctenophores accu =ulated in the collecting baskets located at the end of the Unit 1, 2 and 3 sluiceways. This large influx of Ctenophores effectively clogged the collecting baskets and caused an overrun of water and i= pinged i
organiscs.
Loss of organisms from the sample rendered data yielded by fish and shellfish retained within the basket invalid.
Because of this condition sampling for the 24 hour2.777778e-4 days <br />0.00667 hours <br />3.968254e-5 weeks <br />9.132e-6 months <br /> period of April 21, 1977 to April 22, 1977 was discontinued.
Sampling was, of course, re-j initiated during the week of April 24-30, 1977.

Designation of Apoarent Cause of Occurrence:
1 The cause of this event was the unusually large number of Ctenophores accu =ulating, a'nd clogging, the collection baskets.

Corrective Action:
The effective filtering area of the collecting baskets was increased to reduce clogging during future samples.
