REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION OCONEE NUCLEAR STATION, UNITS 2 AND 3 DOCKET NOS. 50-270 AND 50-287 6.0 ENGINEEREbSAFETYFEATURES 6.4 In a meeting on August 7, 1972 between Duke Power Company and AEC Licensing, Duke stated that the water statically trapped in the condenser cooling water intake and discharge lines below elevation 791.0 (8,825,000 gallons) is an adequate supply to shutdown all three units and maintain them in a shutdown mode for 37 days.

This supply of water would be used in the event that water in the intake canal became lost.

6.4.1 Describe the auxiliary service water system (pump, piping, valves, routing, etc.) which will be used and which enables the plant operator to supply the steam generators with water from the condenser cooling water intake and diccharge lines.-

(Material already contained in the FSAR may be referenced but the description must be complete enough for an independent review of the system.)

6.4.2 Provide the design basis for the system in 6.4.1 which assures that

+

it is suitable for its intended purpose.
