During the staff's review of the semi-annual report for the Oconee Nuclear Station ending June 30,1974, the following apparent inconsistencies were uncovered:
1.
The presence and levels of 40K in air particulates samples are very unlikely and inconsistent with reported total beta activity.
2.
The reported air sample volumes at the four locations vary by an order of magnitdde.
3.
Reported 40K levels in terrestrial vegetation are unusually high by at least an order of magnitdde. Although total beta levels are similar at any single location, samples collected in March 1974, contained no measurable levels of 40K while those collected in June were found to have extremely high levels.
4.
It is unreasonable to find no 40K or any other naturally occurring gauna emitting radionuclides in soil.
It was also noted that the cow census revealed the presence of milch animals within a 5 mile radius of the plant that were not included in the radiological monitoring program.
It i reouested that steps be taken to improve quality control and documentation procedures'to insure that these inconsistencies are not repeated in future reports.
