Docket No. 50-269 Provisional Construction Permit No. CPPR-33 Application for Reneual of Construction Fernit

Dear Dr. Morris:

We ' ereby apply for an extension of time for completion of Oconce Nuclear Sta Lon Unit 1 as covered by Provisional Construction Permit No. CPPn-33.

The original permit called for completion of the facility by February 28, 1971. This date was extended first by your order dated February 27, 1971 to Septcnber 30, 1971 cnd again by your order dated August 27, 1971 to January 31, 1972. As centioncd in our letters of February 19 and August 6, 1971, delays produced by late delivery of major reactor system cen-ponents, the replacc:nent of the reactor coolant pumps, and completion of the preoperational test program have extended the original schedule considerably.

In addition to these delays, the reactor coolant pumps have recently experienced excessive vibration which has required their removal and return to the manufacturer for exnaination and necessary modifications. We expect that the f acility will be ready for fuel loading about March 15, 1972.

We hereby request that the latest completion date specified in Construction Permit No. CPPR-33 be extended f rom January 31, 1972 to June 30, 1972 to provide a suitable cargin.

Very truly yours,
