36 PURPOSE Tc determine the adequacy of a power distribution connector rated for 25KV for use on medium voltage electrical penetrations.
DESCRIPTION The connector is manufactured by the "Elastimold Division" of Amerace Esna Corporation. The catalog number is K650LR. It is rated for 25KV.
The 650LR is similar but is rated for 15KV.
Tne module is designed for use at 15KV. Tne portion of the mocule which is connected with the power distribution connector conforms to the Figure 6 - 600A Nonload break interface as defined in Standarc Cll5.2 ANSI (Figure 1). Figure 2 shows the component before assembly.
Figure 3 shows the assembled component.
PROCEDURE Tne Elastimold connector was irradiated to 1 x 10 RADS at Isomedix, Parsippany, N. J. The module was subjected to 120KV Basic impulse Levei end 36KV - 60 cycle - I min. voltage tests and withstood both tests.
The components were fastened together anc suojected to 103 psis - 340*F stec.' for 6 hours6.944444e-5 days
0.00167 hours
9.920635e-6 weeks
2.283e-6 months
. After the simulated LOCA the assembled unit was subjected to 36KV - 60 cycle - 1 min, without arcover or puncture.
The insulation resistance of the assembly after LOCA was 7 x 10I ohms.
CONCLUSION Tne ciectrical capabilities of the connector and its bushing were not altered by radiation or a LOCA simulation, thus demonstrating its suitability for use inside the containment of a nuclear reactor.
